Many of the experiences have been amazing, whilst life has of course been interspersed with challenges along the way. Here are five of my favourite things about Korea.
1. The 24-hour culture. Working hours here are long, 9.30am - 6.30pm at a minimum but longer for many people. At home this would mean that you'd miss out on most shopping theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-45559431208809086742017-01-29T07:36:00.000+00:002017-01-29T07:36:02.314+00:00A Year in Korea #12 months, 1 week and 1 day ago, Alex and I got on a plane at Manchester airport. 25 hours later we arrived in South Korea. Months of planning had led to that point, and the previous few weeks had passed in a crazy haze of packing, excitement, goodbyes and stress. Having been granted a year long career break, many ends had to be tied up at work, and then we had just 7 days before we left the theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-18102527768426786502016-09-20T19:40:00.002+01:002016-09-20T20:06:59.408+01:00LoveLove.
The single most sought-after feeling in the entire world.
Impossible to buy, invisible to the eye, revered and feared and wanted by so many.
I didn't expect to fall in love, certainly not so quickly and definitely not quite as hard as I did. And it was like falling; like forgetting who I was and where I was and why I was - nothing seemed to matter any more except the fact that this theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-2062978546630830682016-09-07T18:25:00.000+01:002017-01-29T07:48:53.635+00:00The Plot TwistI haven't written anything on my blog for ages. When I first moved into my new flat, I had these aspirations of becoming Leeds' answer to Carrie Bradshaw - a single girl in her mid-twenties with a strong group of female friends, discovering the world of dating. I was going to document the experience satirically, making light of dating disasters and recording my cliched journey of "self-discovery"theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-6741413731809169462016-04-05T23:44:00.001+01:002016-04-06T16:10:32.652+01:00The Witching HourIt's the middle of the night and I'm wide awake. I've tried to sleep, but my mind is racing so it's just hopeless really.
But it's okay, because just a few miles away I know that two of my girlfriends are also wide awake. The wonders of modern technology and group Whatsapp conversations means that we can share Pinterest-worthy quotes and make fun of each other even when it seems the rest theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-4569325203614700402016-03-30T22:01:00.000+01:002016-09-07T18:48:51.439+01:00The Plan
I had a plan.
It was a great plan. Everything was figured out. I "had it all together".
Only I didn't, not really. And the plan fell apart. No-one was to blame, not really. All that matters is that at 24, for the first time in my life, I'm alone.
Three years ago this would have terrified me. Budgeting, bills, spiders, being ill.. all things I thought I would be scared totheteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-73513297537758866242015-01-15T20:49:00.000+00:002015-01-15T21:08:33.651+00:00The Moon and the Rain
There's a strange comfort to be found in watching rain drops run down a window pane. In watching a bird pecking at sparse grass, seeking its early morning meal. In standing in the garden at the dead of night looking at the moon shining its gentle light down on the world, so much less conspicuous than the light given to us by the sun.
For me, these subtle reminders that the universe theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3430077452998162001.post-24999546168535795272014-10-13T21:42:00.001+01:002016-02-13T15:14:18.505+00:00The Rise of the Quarter Life Crisis
We've all known someone who seems to be having a mid-life crisis - you know the sort, doesn't want to leave his wife so decides to go to college and change career at the age of 40, or feels undervalued at work so buys a snazzy new car. It's something of a cliche nowadays, but the mid-life crisis is widely accepted as A Real Thing. Looking around me recently though it seems as though it's the theteuchterlasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02029202351567876462noreply@blogger.com1
